LOCATION   34° 22' N, 119° 35' W about 10 km (6 miles) ESE of Santa Barbara about 7 km (4 miles) WSW of Carpinteria

The shaking from this quake, which was felt as far away as Mojave, Lake Arrowhead, and even San Diego, reached an intensity of VIII (on the Modified Mercalli intensity scale) in Carpinteria and Santa Barbara. Several water mains were broken. Some walls cracked and fell. The tops of streetlights snapped off, and goods were thrown down from store shelves. Damage was estimated at roughly $150,000.
