Significant Event Continuous Data Rcording of the SCSN

Description:

The SCEDC is now archiving and distributing large, continuous time-windows of high sample-rate data (H__ and E__ channels) for a few hours before and after significant
events in Southern California.

In standard data-collection mode, the SCSN broadband instruments (B__, V__ and
L__ channels) are recorded continuously and the higher sample-rate short-period instruments of the network are only recorded in triggered mode. i.e., data for the
H__ and E__ channels are recorded for a few seconds before the origin time to a few minutes after the event.

The general guidelines for significant-event snapshot data collection are:

5.0 <= Mx<= 5.5

6 hours before the event and 6 hours after

5.5 <= Mx<= 6.0   6 hours before the event and 12 hours after
6.0 <= Mx   12 hours before the event and 24 hours after

Access:

These data are considered part of the continuous archive, rather than the triggered archive. To check on the availability of data for a particular event, use the 'avail' command in STP. For example, for the 2003/02/22,12:19:00 Big Bear event, use:

STP> avail -l -chan HH_ 2003/02/22,06:00:00 +18h

to determine what records are available for 6 hours before the event to 12 hours after.

To retrieve the data, use the 'WIN' command in STP:

STP> win -chan HH_ 2003/02/22,06:00:00 +18h (or any sub-portion of time).
